100 Years of Scouting: Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing The Journey

This exhibition commemorates the incorporation of the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910 and documents the history of Scouting. Artifacts in the exhibit include uniforms, equipment and memorabilia collected by Lloyd Stokes of Oak Ridge. International Festival

The annual festival showcases the world’s cultures through international performances, food, crafts, children’s activities and more than two dozen booths highlighting countries and regions of the world. More than 25 countries sharing culture and food and 15 international performances are scheduled throughout the day, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00 Adults, $9.00 Seniors, $8.00 for children. The key performer is Seona McDowell- Australian, Iris and English roots enchanting audiences with songs and stories that are witty, reflective and entertaining. Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and storyteller John McCutcheon has been an East Tennessee favorite for decades. His spellbinding performances feature guitar, banjo, hammer dulcimer, piano, fiddle, and autoharp. Proceeds from the concert will help build wheelchair ramps at the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. The concert is aimed primarily at adults, but children are welcome.

Youth Aliyah Concert
The concert will be from 3pm - 5 pm at the The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN.

An annual event that features performances by talented young musicians of Oak Ridge and the surrounding area. Performers usually range in age from 4 to 18 and perform a varied program of music by J.S.Bach, Bela Bartok, Melody Bober, Carol Bohm, Frédéric François Chopin, Muzio Clementi, Claude Debussy, Anton Diabelli, J.H.Fiocco, George Gershwin, and more. dgar Meyer, a native Oak Ridger, and the world renowned bassist and composer was a regular performer at the Youth Aliyah concerts in the past. July 4th Celebration and Anvil Shoot

July 4th will be celebrated in an unusual, dramatic, and traditional fashion at the Museum of Appalachia. Anvils will be shot at 10 a.m., 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, there will be demonstrations of other traditional activities such as open-hearth cooking, wood carving, blacksmithing, saw milling, rail spliting, crosscut sawing, spinning, and buggy rides. Old Time music will be played and sung on the porches of the cabins and in the old log church. The demonstrations and music can be found throughout the 65-acre farm/village complex.

Cantilever Barn Celebration
Museum of Appalachia
The Cantilever Barn will be featured in a world-wide celebration of Swiss heritage barns in the United States, Canada and Switzerland. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. visitors can tour the Museum’s historic Cantilever Barn in person, and see eight other barns in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Indiana, Switzerland and Canada via internet connection through skype.com. The virtual event is included with regular admission. The barn is a two-pen style with overhangs on all four sides. On August 7, visitors can step inside the pens for a close look at construction techniques. In the Southeast, cantilevered barns are found almost exclusively in a few counties of East Tennessee.

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, comes to life in this musical adaptation of the holiday classic. Stingy old Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by spirits and shown that, unless he changes his ways toward his fellow man, he will be faced with a sad fate. A delight for the whole family. Holiday Homecoming
Annual Holiday Homecoming
Norris Dam State Park, 4 pm – 9 pm
Celebrate the Holidays by strolling through the decorated cabins at Norris Dam State Park. The cabins will be decorated in different themes that depict a different Tennessee Holiday homecoming. Christmas Caroling and craft making will also be occurring throughout the cabin area. There will be old time music in the Tea Room where Santa will also be available for taking wish list and pictures.
